In Bolivia’s Fungal Jungle... January 20-30, 2012

Join mushroom gurus Larry Evans and Daniel Winkler on a  trip of fungal discovery into the mountains, yungas, and jungles of Bolivia. Traveling by jeep, plane, and dugout canoe, we will spend a week in one of the most complete and complex ecosystems remaining on the planet. Group members will assist with a 5 year study of the fungi of Madidi national park, authorized by the Bolivian National Herbarium, and stay in comfort at the world's first Ecolodge, on the shores of Laguna Chalalan. The canoe arrives at the riverbank moorings near Chalalan. The boat ride up river from Rurrenabaque takes 5 hours.
We often see capybara and other riparian loving wildlife, including dozens of species of birds.

The buildings at the Madidi site are rustic but clean and comfortable.

All bedding and mosquito nets are provided. We will be at about 1000m, above the zone for malaria mosquitoes.
The cabins at Chalalan come with or without indoor plumbing. A shower and restroom building serves the less expensive group cabins.

The lodge at Chalalan sits on the edge of this pristine jungle lake.
We travel by canoe to the opposite shores to hunt mushrooms and set off for more remote parts of the jungle.
